UNH Manchester’s Milling Around hosting an a cappella competition at the Palace Theatre in Manchester for middle and high schools from all across New Hampshire. The concert will be Friday, October 15th at 7PM and ticket sales support collegiate scholarships for participating seniors.
UNH Manchester’s female a cappella group, Milling Around, is hosting an a cappella competition, concert and educational clinics for New Hampshire middle and high school students, -- Voices of (603). It is our hope that by providing this opportunity to the choruses across the state, the love for vocal music will flourish. The day-long program will provide opportunities for performance and networking between students, teachers, and schools.
Our goals for Voices of (603) are to:
• Provide college scholarships with funding raised through concert ticket sales
• Raise awareness of vocal and a cappella music in the state,
• Connect and showcase the talented musicians throughout the state,
• Provide alternative ways to foster a lifelong passion in music without necessarily majoring in music.
The program will consist of two segments. The first part of the day is at the University of New Hampshire at Manchester, located in Manchester’s historic millyard. At the UNH Manchester campus we will host clinics for the students and their teachers on topics such as arranging music for their current ensemble, promoting the ensemble, Beatboxing 101, microphone use. We are pleased to have Dr. Andrew Spector, from Ear Nose and Throat Specialists of Southern New Hampshire who will present a session on the keys to great vocal health.
The program, along with the students and teachers and presenters, will move to the historic Palace Theatre for the remainder of the day. At the Palace, the only surviving theater from Manchester’s “Great White Way,” the students will perform in a public concert where a 2010 NH schools a cappella champion will be recognized and provided with many performance opportunities lined up across the state, such as National Anthem opportunities and other media appearances.
