--For the Schools--

UNH Manchester’s Milling Around, the co-ed a cappella group, is hosting the second annual a cappella festival on October 14, 2011 and we would like to invite your a cappella ensemble at school to perform. Voices of the (603) will take place at UNH Manchester and the Currier Museum of Art (6:30PM Concert Start) in Manchester for middle and high schools from all across New Hampshire.

Schedule options: There are several options for you and your school’s participation.
1 – Attend clinics (students + teachers) in the morning only (10AM-3:15PM),
2 – Attend clinics (teacher only) in the morning only (10AM-3:15PM),
3 – Attend the performances only (students + teachers) (4PM-9PM), or
4 – Attend the whole day (clinics in the morning and performance at night)
(You may sign up for any/all of these times for CEUs for yourself or performances and clinics for your students/ensembles.) (SIGN UP HERE)

Please sign up by Friday, September 30th to voicesofthe603@gmail.com or call me 641-4362 or through mail Jamie Saucier | UNH Manchester | 400 Commercial Street | Manchester, NH 03101.

Music: We will sing one ensemble piece together (Rock and Roll: A Medley) and your group(s) will need to prepare two additional pieces to perform. We have scheduled time to rehearse Rock and Roll: A Medley –as well as rehearsal times and sound checks for your individual ensembles. On the website: (www.voicesofthe603.com) we have the different parts, mp3s and scorch files available for your ensemble. Please look this song over before coming with your ensemble. Do not worry about learning this song completely, because is a fairly easy song to learn that day.

Ensemble information: You must have a representative/chaperone for your ensemble the whole time. We will be in two locations (UNH Manchester and Currier Museum) but never at the same time. The only time when the chaperone would not be with the students is during clinics- unless you wish to attend the same clinic together. Both buildings are handicap accessible.

Cost:  $25 registration fee for schools. This helps offset the cost of the award for each group. (Students will need to bring a bagged lunch and a water bottle. We will have water stations on campus and at the Currier.) Check made payable to UNH Manchester.

Parking: There is pay and display parking behind UNH Manchester in Arms Lot. We will provide school transportation between UNH Manchester and the Currier. When we go to the Currier Museum of Art there is free parking available.

Tickets: Tickets are $10/each. Tickets can and should be purchased ahead of time. We will be live-streaming this event as well. All ticket sales are going to support the bipartisan Arts support group: New Hampshire Citizens for the Arts.

Some other Really Cool things….
We will be live streaming the concert this year.
We have a fantastic list of presenters (including people who have been on the Sing-Off).
We will also be having the WZID radio DJ: Heather Bishop emcee the event.
We will also be attempting to live broadcast the Voice Box (a cappella radio from UNH Durham) live from the Currier with updates from the festival.
I will also provide anyone who asks, with custom a cappella arrangements for your ensemble of a song of your choice throughout the year.
The Citizens for the Arts is a bipartisan support group for all the Arts in the state including music education.

As a music educator myself, I know that this time of year may not be conducive to a competition; however, all that is needed is two a cappella songs from your group(s) and the willingness to have fun!

--About the Festival--

pix

The festival starts at 10 a.m. at the University of New Hampshire at Manchester. Clinics range in variety from Beatboxing to arranging. Students and teachers will learn concepts about a cappella that will enchance their future performances.

After the clinics the students will then move over to the Currier Museum of Art where they will be provided with a tour of the museum and view the BackStage Pass exhibit. Students will begin sound checks and get ready for their performance.

Starting at 6:30 p.m. the schools will present a concert that is sure to have you feeling the music! All of the students will be performing a large group number: Rock and Roll: A Medley. During the intermission of the concert, all concert attendees are invited to view the museum on a self-guided tour. All funds from the ticket sales will go to support Arts advocacy through the group New Hampshire Citizens for the Arts.
